How to Get A Tax ID Number

This article will explain how you can apply for an employer identification number and a tax ID number. An employer identification number, also called an EIN, is necessary for anyone who needs to work within United States. A tax identification number can be had by applying@IRS.gov. You do not need to file a form SS-4.

By going to the website for the IRS, you can simply answer the questions that the IRS poses for you at their website. After you have entered your information the IRS will determine whether it is accurate and after validation you will receive your confirmation that you have now been assigned a tax ID number.

Your tax identification number is a permanent number and you may use it as soon as you get it for most of your business affairs. This includes the opening of a checking account at a bank, or even if you're applying for certain business licenses that are needed for your state. You can also use your tax identification number to file your tax return by the U.S. Postal Service.

Tax ID Number Application Process

You can apply online during the following hours during the week:
Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 12:30 AM, Eastern time
Saturday, 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Eastern time
Sunday, 7:00 PM to 12 clock a.m. Eastern time

Remember, you do not have to wait to use your tax identification number. Also, it is important to remember that the IRS does not allow you to use "$" as part of your business name for the purposes of applying for tax identification number. If you wish, you can still apply for a tax identification by sending in form SS-4.

It is also important to remember that the IRS allows any business entity type to apply for a tax identification number over the Internet. You do not need to have a specific type of computer or software to apply for a tax identification number. You may use your tax identification number when it's time to make your estimated yearly annual tax payments.
